Protected areas: conservation and recreation.

Protected areas became one of the most important, cornerstone of cultural and nature heritage preservation. Protected areas have long and thoughtful history. The main purposes of protected areas were understood differently, that is why many countries priorities of protection range separated differently and formed culture and management of protected worth in their own ways. These differences appear and nowadays in different networks of protected areas in Europe, but they all are united by one objective – to preserve valuable landscape's complexes, nature's and culture's heritage for future generations.

In our workshop we are going to discuss about the importance of the cultural objects like a symbols of the country in the world. Is it very important to become a member of the UNESCO to have possibility to protect cultural objects and sites? UNESCO cultural objects and tentative sites (they lay claim to become on the UNESCO list). How did the local government could take care about that? What kind of threats is for the objects and sites (tourism, urbanization, etc.)? The main subject’s we discuss is:

Protected areas are important component in a country's tourist industry, attracting many foreign visitors as well as local.

There are differences between people's standpoint to protected areas too.

Protected areas cover approximately 15 percent of Lithuania's territory. It is the most beautiful places of the country. However, there are some problems in this sector too: illegal works, negative standpoint of community or people, etc. 

In our workshop we'll discuss about the main attitudes to protected areas in different countries. Is it very important to protect our landscape, nature and cultural heritage? How we can change the negative standpoint to positive? What kind of threats are for these territories? The main subjects we'll discuss are: 

-- Different attitude to protected areas (in different countries), the comparison;

-- Threats for protected areas;

-- European Union support and cooperation for protected areas;

-- Problems and possibilities.
